What To Sell On eBay

By: Scott Douglas

Deciding what to put up for auction on eBay is among the biggest choices you will have to make. Considering there are more than 20,000 categories and sub-categories, your choices are practically limitless.

Practically all eBay marketers caught “the eBay bug” the same way. At first, they started selling a scattering of items around the house to produce some additional money. Later, when they found out how effortless it was to transform “dust collectors” into big bucks nothing flat, they started hawking almost anything that wasn't nailed down.

This strategy is okay for awhile. Marketing unused items out of your garage, or treasures that you discover at yard sales is good experience and should assist you to pick up the fundamentals of the internet auction business. Nonetheless, you will never earn any big time cash by hawking these types of “one off” articles.

The trick to generating astronomical quantities of income on eBay is to market “cookie cutter” products which can be sold repeatedly. Your objective should be to discover products that will sell rapidly and for a significant amount of gain. You also want to locate products which can be marketed in bulk.

Once you find the hottest selling items on eBay which attract bids like cows to a salt lick, all you have to do is relist the items every time you sell one. I like to call these “cookie cutter” products. You only have to do the work of putting in place the online auction once. After that, you just click a single button to relist the product and continue selling it over and over again the same way. Macy's, McDonald's, Walmart and eBay Power Sellers all use this method.

Consumable products are usually the most profitable moneymakers of all. Following the initial sale, the product will be consumed and your client will need to purchase it again. With time, you will be able to build a firm client base that will buy from you over and over, developing an ongoing income stream.

Uncovering top selling items to sell on eBay is like going fishing. If you want to snag a boatload of fish, you must first discover where the fish are lurking and what they are biting. If you fish in a river with no fish, or if you use unsavory bait, you'll never hook any fish. The strategy for snagging as many fish as you can carry is to cast the correct bait into a lake stuffed with voracious fish.

Likewise, you will never discover how to become financially free on eBay if you are trying to market a product that is in low demand to a very small group of customers. If you desire to make a boatload of cash on eBay, the trick is to find a product that is in high demand and put it up for auction in the best category.
