Why Don't More People Have 6 Pack Abs? A washboard stomach is a rare thing these days. Although you see a lot of people in magazines and movies with great abs, you rarely see a regular guy or girl walking around with a six pack. Most people eventually give up on their quest to get a defined midsection. They believe that it is only something for movie stars or super models. I'm telling you to quit thinking that way! Bench Pressing a Large Weight is Not As Impressive as Toned Abs Don't be too impressed with the guy who can squat 500+ pounds or the guy who can bench 315 for reps. Seriously, this is much more common than a person with a ripped midsection. There are more people who can run for 1 hour straight than have six pack abs. Can you dunk a basketball? I put that in the same "rare air" as having incredible washboard abs. If you have been working out for a year or so and don't have 6 pack abs, then you aren't spending your time properly in the gym. When Your Abs Are Defined, Your Whole Body Will Look Great The fat around your stomach area is usually the last to go. If you get to the point where your abs are showing, then I guarantee you that the rest of your body looks amazing as well. I believe that this is the reason that people find toned abdominals so sexy...they know that the rest of the body must look toned as well! So if you focus on a 6 pack, everything else will fall into place. A Washboard Stomach is 80-90% About Diet and Cardio I swear that you could drop all those crunching and sit up movements and get amazing abs. How do I know this? Well, I haven't done a crunch in over 5 years and my abs are more defined then ever. Have you ever seen the TV show "Survivor"? By the end of the show almost every person has really defined six pack abs and I know that none of them got there by ab exercises. You don't want to go to that extreme, but it does show you what low body fat will do. Ab Exercises Probably Account for Only 10% of the Results Some people will freak out if they don't do at least some for of crunching movement. If that is the case then do 3-4 sets, don't just spend too much time here. Spend the majority of your time burning body fat with cardio. I prefer running, since it forces your core to stabilize your body while you do it. Your abs have to tighten to transfer force from your legs to your upper body. This is especially true with interval training, which involves sprinting. Summary: Most people just need to increase the amount of calories burned through cardio and decrease the amount of food consumed. I know this solution seems way too simple, but it is the truth!
