By: Vision Wei

No sound from computer? This is a vexatious error which troubles lots of people. I came across this problem once. When I double clicked windows media player to play a video, but there was no sound on pc Luckily, I handled this trouble at last.

How I fixed this error? Before I tell you the approach, I want to tell you the typical issues that lead to the error. One factor is the audio card problem and the other is the driver. You need to follow the instructions below to resolve the error. (The course will be a little different between XP and Windows Vista. )

1. Check The Sound Card

1) Examine The Sound Card.

To begin with, you should inspect if your sound box is working. If it is working, then examine your sound card. If it is attached closely to the socket;if the audio card chipset is normal?

2) Inspect BIOS Setting.

If you are using inboard audio card, you should check your BIOS. When you go into BIOS, open Integrated Peripherals and find your sound card(normally its name is AC97 Audio). Then set it to be Auto or Enable. Then find On Board AC97 Control and set it to be Auto or Enable. Save and exit.

If all those issues are ok, but still no sound on computer, it must be the bug of the audio card driver.

2. Inspect The Audio card Driver.

1) Open Device Manager.

Right click My computer and then Properties. Then the Properties Window opens and click Hardware tab. Select on Device Manager. The Device Manager will pop up.

2) Examine the audio card.

Click “Sound, video and game controller”. You will see a list of items, if there is a red cross before a item, it means this item is disabled. Then you right click it and adjust it to be Enable.

3) Sound Card Driver is corrupted or outdated.

If you see a exclamatory mark before an item, it means that the driver is corrupted or outdated. So you need to install a new driver for it.

Normally out-of-date or missing driver files issue in the sound troubles. The best way is to back up and keep your drivers up to date regularly.
