If you are a cardio lover and are still struggling to lose the pregnancy weight, then the writing is on the wall. Find out what that writing on wall has to say to solve the mystery of why, with all your hard work, you are not shedding the pounds. We can easily drown in the sea of information that is available on fitness and health. One needs to find a means of sifting through it all. The following will save you "sifting" time and make your efforts to lose your tummy worth your while. 1. Cardiovascular exercise takes you only so far. Your heart loves cardio because it keeps it healthy and strong. Unfortunately, the rest of your body doesn't benefit as much. Sure your lungs and legs build up endurance but not muscle mass. Have often do you see a body builder running for 60 minutes? Cardio can decrease your muscle mass over time. Muscle tone and fat burning are intricately linked. So if a toned, lean body is your goal then doing too much cardio is not the right thing for you. For the determined Mom who is trying to burn the baby fat with spending her valuable workout time only doing cardio such as running, the disappointing news is that your body eventually adjusts to the type of cardio that you perform and you will not lose any more weight. This means that your 45 min run 2 months ago would have burned more calories than the same activity today. This is a possible piece of the puzzle as to why you are not getting "there". 2. Weight training tones your muscles. As they saying goes, "if you don't use it, you'll lose it" and the same applies to our muscles. And to make things worse, our muscles naturally deteriorate as we age. However, we can re-build our "unused" muscle mass to get our muscles lean and toned if we include some resistance strength training into our workout routine. Resistance training is the strength training that is used to tone and strengthen your muscles. Compared to other forms of strength training such as power lifting or bodybuilding, resistance training does not make your muscles bulky but it does increase your muscle and bone density. Rest assured that using weights as part of your workout will not bulk up your muscle unless you are willing to undergo the intense diet and exercise regime of people who want to big muscles. It would be to your advantage to incorporate weights in your workout routine. When you tone and strengthen your muscles, you will be essentially increasing the "fat burning" capability of your body. It will increase your metabolism, burn the baby fat and reduce your waist size, lower your body mass index and give you more energy to feel and look fabulous. 3. Weight training is User Friendly. The wonderful thing about resistance training is that you don't have to be in a gym in order to do a workout. Once you have educated yourself on resistance training, you are ready to lose your tummy. Activities such as using free weights, using an exercise ball during abs exercises or using an elastic band to add resistance to your workout to build muscle can all be done in the comfort of your home. Gym memberships can be taxing on the family budget and on your time. Your best bet would be to workout at home. This is possible with a resistance workout because it requires any type of external resistance, whether it is elastic, water, free or body weight, to work your muscles. It will not only save you money but it will save you time as well because a workout lasts no more than 20 minutes. The methods to lose weight after giving birth can be quite simple but the difficulty lies in staying motivated and disciplined. Eating right and including strength training for your muscles will result in you losing the baby fat more quickly, increasing your metabolic rate and essentially resulting in a healthier you.
