Kinky Twists

By: Marquetta Breslin

Are you sick of the same old hairstyles? Looking for something new, trendy, and popular? If so, you have found the right place. Kinky twists are great for busy people who want a hairstyle that is easy to maintain. Unlike the ever-so-popular micro braids, kinky twists are not braided.

Thinking about getting kinky twists? Here are some points to keep in mind:

1. If you have stray hairs that pop out of the twists, just smooth them down with a little bit of gel.

2. Starting the twist is a very difficult skill to master. You can start the kinky twist in one of two ways-a twist or a cornrow. If you're starting your twist with a cornrow, make sure to cornrow down at least one time, but don't cornrow down more than twice. This will ensure that your twist is secure at the root.

3. It is very important to understand that kinky twists are made from two separate twists. First, twist the pieces of hair individually; then twist the twisted pieces around each other.

4. To have a finished style that appears fuller, try staggering the parts. Layering the parts one on top of the other will allow the twists to fall on top of the empty part, not on top of another twist.

5. Right before you go to sleep, wrap a silk scarf around your kinky twists. This will keep the style from moving around too much while you sleep.

Unlike cornrows, kinky twists don't lay on the scalp; they flow freely, just like regular hair. You can use your natural hair for this style, or you can add synthetic hair. Either way, kinky twists should take around six to eight hours to complete. With proper care, they should last up to three months.

When you are finished doing your kinky twists, you must secure the ends or they will unravel. There are several ways to finish the twist. If you want some curl on the ends of your twists, roll the ends with a small rod. Once you've rolled the hair, dip the ends in hot water and towel dry. The water must be to the boiling point, so using a large container or jug with a handle will be very helpful. Be very careful around the boiling water. If you like your ends straight, just dip them in the hot water but don't use the rods.

Kinky twists are favored by many people because of their funky style and easy-to-maintain regime. If you twists become dull, just add a little oil sheen spray for added shine. Don't forget to wrap your hair up with a silk scarf before going to sleep.
