5 tips how to keep cut flowers fresh long enough

Any person buying flowers want that their flowers should look as fresh as possible. The florists have to handle a huge quantity of cut flowers in order to keep it fresh for a long time. Whether you have received a gorgeous bouquet of fresh flowers or you have cut the prettiest flowers from your backyard, you should try to keep it fresh and flowering. Here are a few tips by which you can keep your cut flowers fresh long enough:

- Purchase the freshest flowers in the market: If you buy flowers from any florist or from the flower market, make sure that these are fresh. The flowers you get must not be preserved in cold storage before it reaches you. You need to check the quality of flowers you want to buy either to surprise somebody or to decorate your home.
- Organise a perfect container: The container in which you will be putting your lovely flowers must be of enough height. It should be able to cover minimum 3-4 inches of the flower stems with water as well as should also support the bunch of flowers. Before you place your flowers in any container, please clean it properly so that there are no bacteria in it, as bacteria decreases the life of your flowers. While washing your flower holder, make sure that there is no foamy remains in it as the leftover chemicals might prove to be very dangerous for your fresh flowers.
- Trim the endings of flower stems: Trimming the ends of flower stem in cross cut is advisable. The diagonal cut increase the surface area thus facilitating the absorption of enough water for the flowers. Trimming has to be done by placing your flower stem below the cool water area. Cold water is perfect for flowers to be fresh for a long timeas warm water dehydrates it.
- Make your vase ready: Fill up adequate water in your vase so that it covers 3-4 inches of flower stem. Add some flower food or aspirin tablet to increase the life of your flowers.
- Remove the leaves on the flower stem: The leaves of the flower stem are submerged in water and this results in creation of bacteria. The bacteria are dangerous for the life of your flowers. So it is necessary to remove the leaves in order to prevent bacteria formation thereby increasing the life of your cut flowers. Further change the water from the flower vase every two to three days and also pour fresh water at least one time a day.
